In Petea Lake we find a monument of nature, the giant water lily, as well as species of snails and fish (Scardinius erythrophtalamus) that have adjusted themselves to the water’s high temperature (30-320C). SOVATA Is situated in central Transylvania in the area of the volcanic Gurghiu Mountains, 60 kilometers from Targu-Mures. This resort has become famous owing to the natural and therapeutic values of the salty heliothermal waters of Lake Ursu. Worth mentioning about Lacul Ursu is that it is a unique natural phenomenon in Europe – the temperature of the lake water rises rapidly as its depth increases: at 1 meter = 30-400, at 1,5 meters = 40-500C, and at 2 meters the temperature may reach 60 degrees.The resort is recommended for the treatment of gynecological and respiratory diseases. Entertainment opportunities in the spa include clubs a, gyms, swimming pools and a casino. BAILE HERCULANE
The thermal and mineral waters of Baile Herculane were discovered and have been used since the conquest of Dacia by the Roman legions. Due the curing properties of these waters the Romans called the place “Adaquas Herculi sacras”. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the spa became a very fashionable place and was visited among others by Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth, who had their own pavilions here. The thermal and mineral waters are recommended for the treatment of rheumatic, neurologic, digestive, cardiovascular and nutrition disorders. Accommodation is available in the hotels Afrodita**, Cerna **, Dacia**, Domogled**, Hercules**, Minerva**, Roman** and Apollo*. The resort has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, discotheques and nightclubs.
CALIMANESTI – CACIULATA
When the Olt River gets out from the narrow pass at Cozia, the tourist comes across the Calimanesti-Caciulata Spa with the salty, hypertone, chloro-sodic, iodate, bromate, sulphured, magnesian mineral waters recommended for a wide range of diseases. The spa turns the special landscape and the mineral waters to best account. Accommodation consists of hotel centers Caciulata**, Cozia**, Oltul**, Central** and Traian*, villas, and camping sites. The sulphur, chloride, bromate, calcic waters are recommended for digestive, renal, urological and rheumatic diseases. Treatment includes internal cures with mineral water, mineral or herbal baths equipment, therapeutic mudpacks and medical gyms. The mineral springs are cold (Calimanesti, Caciulata 1 and 2), mezothermal(Bivolari 1 and 2) and thermal (Cozia 1). The most concentrated water for internal cures is spring no.6. The use of such waters has a long history, being used since the time of the Dacians and the Romans (Arutela Thermal Baths). The main spring (Caciulata 1) was discovered in 1830.
BAILE TUSNAD
Baile Tusnad is a mountain resort spa which used mineral waters; the first treatment basis dates from 1890 and the modern one from 1977. The resort’s attractions are represented by the invigorating climate with ozonized air; the carbogaseous, bicarbonated, calcic, ferruginous mineral waters recommended for cardiovascular, digestive and rheumatic diseases. The Ciucas Lake (used as a skating rink in winter) and the famous volcanic lake, Sfanta Ana (St.Ann) in the Ciomatu Mountain are located in the immediate vicinity of the spa. Also worth noticing here are the following tourist attractions: - Lacul cu Muschi – the Moss Lake (Malnas) which has a few rare species of plants, “roua cerului” and the silver rosemary. Plesuvu Mare Mountain with Stanca Soimilor (Hawk’s Peak) and Stancile Turnurilor (The Towers Peak) - Turnul Alb – the White Tower is a building located on Ciomatul Mare slope, dating from 1873, which provides a beautiful panorama over Olt Valley. - Vapa medieval citadel.
BALVANYOS
This resort is located at an altitude of 900 meters by the side of a volcanic mountain where Sfanta Ana Lake was formed. With an invigorating climate, cold winters and hot summers and strongly ozonized air, rich in aerosols, Balvanyos is recommended for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, stress and sexual dysfunctions. Tourist can find accommodation in the Carpati** hotel and villas. COVASNA Covasna, also called “The Resort of 1000 Health Springs”, has entered the national and international tourist circuit thanks to its variety of natural therapeutic assets, mineral waters and mofettes. Covasna also appeals to tourists owing to the Catholic Church which dates from the 16th Century, the folk art exhibition organized in summer time, the Botanical Gardens, the Hanka Valley (with mineral water springs), Valea Zanelor – the Fairy Valley (with the ruins of a Dacian fortress of the Ist Century B.C.) and “siclaul” – an inclined plane for the transportation of wood by trucks covering a distance of 1,232 m. The nearby resort of Bradul, located near Toplita in the Mures Valley in a spruce and other fir trees forest in the Giurgeu Depression, has hypothermal, bicarbonated and sodic waters that are recommended for rheumatic and digestive diseases. The spa also puts at the disposal of its guests a number of villas, chalets and camping sites.
SLANIC MOLDOVA
Slanic Moldova spa is located on the eastern side of the Eastern Carpathians in the Slanic River Valley at an altitude of 530 meters. The climate is mild to moderate with strong air currents.
